One of the oldest settlements in the state of Missouri, Florissant was settled about the same time as the city of Saint Louis, with our first civil government formed in 1786. Spanish archives in Havana, Cuba state there were 40 people in Florissant at the time of the 1787 census! Our “village” at the time was called “Fleurissant,” or “Blooming” in English, by its French settlers and “St. Ferdinand” by its Spanish rulers. Fast forward 220-plus years and, today, Florissant is a large and thriving suburb of Saint Louis —and ranks as Missouri’s 13th largest city — and with 20 parks comprising almost 400 acres with a variety of attractions, it’s a great place to live, work, and play! In 2012, Florissant ranked #76 in Money Magazine‘s top 100 list of Best Places to Live – America’s Best Small Cities and, in 2014, Florissant ranked as the #1 Best Small City to Retire To in America and the 2nd Safest City in Missouri.
