Spanish archives in Havana, Cuba state there were 40 people in Florissant at the time of the 1787 census! Our “village” at the time was called “Fleurissant,” or “Blooming” in English, by its French settlers and “St. Ferdinand” by its Spanish rulers. Fast forward 220-plus years and, today, Florissant is a large and thriving suburb of Saint Louis —and ranks as Missouri’s 13th largest city — and with 20 parks comprising almost 400 acres with a variety of attractions, it’s a great place to live, work, and play!
